Malhotra was born in Delhi on January 16, 1985 . He did his schooling from St. Xavier's School, Delhi. While in college, he appeared inNIIT and Pantaloons commercials. He started modeling for Roberto Cavalli’s advertisement campaigns and appeared on the covers of several magazines including RedBook, Gladrags and Men’s Health. He quit the modeling industry to become an actor, prior to which, he was the assistant director of My Name Is Khan (2010)
